The highly anticipated festival of Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi, is on the horizon. This occasion falls within the auspicious Poornima Tithi of Shravan Maas, dedicated to celebrating the cherished connections we share with our siblings. Traditionally, sisters adorn their brothers’ wrists with the Rakhi thread on this day, offering prayers for their prosperity and longevity. In return, brothers solemnly pledge to safeguard their sisters and endlessly shower them with affection. However, in the contemporary context, it’s not uncommon for siblings, whether brothers and sisters or sisters with sisters, to exchange Rakhis. This gesture is often accompanied by the exchange of gifts and mutual vows of protection and affection.
As the nation’s siblings prepare themselves to rejoice in this festival, there exists a certain ambiguity regarding the “shubh muhurat” or the auspicious timing for tying the Rakhi. This year, Hindus have the option to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on two distinct days: August 30th and 31st. Continue reading to uncover all the intricate particulars.
Raksha Bandhan to be celebrated over two days:
As per Drik Panchang, Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30th. Nevertheless, due to the occurrence of Bhadra Kaal, the option to perform the Rakhi ceremony extends to August 31st. This year, the Bhadra phase for Raksha Bandhan commences at 5:30 pm and concludes at 6:31 pm on August 30th. Subsequently, the Bhadra Mukha period starts at 6:31 pm and concludes at 8:11 pm on the same day. Consequently, the conclusion of the Raksha Bandhan Bhadra falls at 9:01 pm.
In accordance with tradition, it’s advisable to initiate the Raksha Bandhan customs following the conclusion of the Bhadra Kaal. Thus, the auspicious time (shubh muhurat) to tie the Rakhi and partake in the Raksha Bandhan traditions with your siblings will commence after 9:01 pm. Moreover, the Poornima Tithi or Full Moon phase begins at 10:58 am on August 30th and concludes at 7:05 am on August 31st.
