Gadar 2 :
The much-anticipated sequel to the romantic partition-era love saga, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” is making a triumphant return with “Gadar 2.” Prior to the impending storm caused by the sequel, a re-release of the original “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” is scheduled for June 9, 2023, recreating the sensation it had once caused at the box office.
Coincidentally, the sequel to Akshay Kumar’s popular film “OMG,” titled “OMG 2,” is set to challenge this resurgence as it also releases on the same date. Both films have already started their advance bookings as of August 2. Notably, early reports indicate that a staggering 56,000 tickets have already been sold for “Gadar 2,” whereas “OMG 2” lags behind significantly with only 7,300 tickets sold so far. The clash between “Gadar 2” and “OMG 2” is slated for Independence Day, August 11, 2023.
In this sequel, “Gadar 2,” the narrative continues to follow the journey of Tara Singh (played by Sunny Deol) and his family. While the first installment saw Singh crossing borders to rescue his wife Sakeena (Ameesha Patel), the sequel delves into Tara’s struggle to protect his son.
The stellar cast of “Gadar 2” features the return of beloved actors reprising their roles from the 2001 blockbuster. Sunny Deol reprises his role as Tara Singh, Ameesha Patel as Sakeena (Sakku), and Utkarsh Sharma as Charanjeet Singh (Jeete). Additionally, the film boasts performances by Manish Wadhwa (Pak Army General), Sajjad Delafrooz (Pak Army), Gaurav Chopra, Dolly Bindra (Gul Khan’s wife), Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, and Rohit Choudhary.
Anil Sharma, at the helm of Anil Sharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios, spearheads the creation of “Gadar 2.” This sequel also marks his return as director, with the story crafted by Shaktimaan Talwar. The film’s technical aspects are skillfully handled by Najeeb Khan behind the camera, Ashfaq Makrani overseeing editing, and Chandan Saxena along with Mithun Sharma composing the music.
A special touch to the movie comes in the form of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who lends his voice to narrate the introduction for “Gadar 2,” featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel in lead roles.
However, “Gadar 2” has faced its share of controversy during its production. A dispute arose during the shooting of climax scenes in Lucknow, involving around 150 junior artists. They protested, alleging non-payment of their fees, prompting the production to involve the police to disperse the crowd. Director Anil Sharma clarified that they had only expected a smaller group of 10-15 people and were surprised by the larger turnout, according to reports.
